Over the last 30 years Firdell has developed a suite of predictive radar performance computer software programs. The computer programs have been verified by comparison between the predicted performance of a reflector design and the actual test results. Testing is undertaken in facilities using equipment approved by the Government or NATO. In these tests correlations of theory and practice is shown to be excellent. This is the technology base used to develop Radar Reflectors to meet any Commercial, Shipping, Leisure Marine or Defence requirement.

Designs can be generated and performance tested within the computer with great confidence. Subsequent tests of the finished reflector have shown an excellent match between prediction and practice. Firdell uses the most up-to-date Defence radar research test ranges equipped with the latest sophisticated test gear. Because of this rigorous approach to the design of its radar reflectors large numbers of Firdell reflectors are in use with British Armed Forces and NATO. The NATO codification of Firdell’s products and the issuing of NATO Stock Numbers indicate formal approval to exacting standards. From our technology base and understanding of radar reflection we believe that each issue of the Marine Radar Reflector Performance Specification has exhibited serious flaws. Firdell professional customers became uncomfortable with the specification as written and concluded that it was not relevant to their demanding requirements. Firdell’s scientists, based on best practice in the defence industry, developed a new performance specification for radar reflectors. This new specification satisfactorily addresses the MRRP specifications inadequacies and reflects the latest developments in Radar Synthetic Targetry. It has been fully adopted by Firdell’s Professional customers (military and commercial). It has been used by them for over a decade. Leisure marine customers of Firdell Products benefit from them being designed to an appropriate up to date performance specification that is current with the military. If any body knows the importance of the correct specification for radar reflectors it is the military.
